Cavity Wall Insulation

If your home was built after 1920, there’s a chance that its external walls are made of two layers with a gap between them, (this is known as the cavity). If this gap is uninsulated, you are losing 35% of your heat. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping the warmth in to save you money on your heating bills. It can also help reduce condensation inside your house if this is a problem.
Below is a table of how much money you could save by having your wall insulated:

Building Type

Annual Saving

Carbon dioxide saving per year

Detached

£250

1040kg

Semi – detached

£145

600kg

Mid – Terrace

£95

395kg

Bungalow

£100

410kg

Flat

£75

325kg

(The above chart was taken from the Energy Saving Trust website and is correct as of August 2014)

If you’re not sure whether your walls are insulated or not, one of our registered surveyors will do a boroscope inspection. This involves drilling a small hole in your external wall to see if they’re hollow or filled.

To insulate your cavity walls, our registered installer drills small holes around 22mm in size at intervals of around 1m in the outside wall of your home. With specially designed equipment, they then blow insulation into the cavity. Once all the insulation is in, the installer fills the holes in the brickwork so you’ll barely notice them.

Filling cavity walls is not a job you can do yourself. You will need a registered installer. One of our registered Futureplumb installers can fill your cavity walls in around two hours for an average house with easily accessible walls. It is a simple, quick, no mess job.

If you would like more information or a member of our team to survey your home to see if you need cavity wall insulation please contact us.
